A Revolutionary Approach to Learning Is Worldschool:
Read: 4mins, STRICTLY NO SCREENSHOTS
In recent years, a new approach to learning has been gaining popularity among families who value flexibility, freedom, and real-world learning. But what exactly is worldschooling, and how does it compare to mainstream and alternative education?
Worldschooling is a method of learning that is polar opposite to traditional academics with real-world experiences, often through exploring the world and immersion in different cultures and topics that align.
Instead of sitting in a traditional classroom for hours each day and being taugh to, worldschoolers learn through an holistic approach feeding learning in an adventurous and curious way.
One of the key differences between worldschooling and mainstream education is the emphasis on experiential learning. Rather than relying solely on textbooks and worksheets, worldschoolers engage with the world around them and learn through doing. This approach allows individuals to develop a deeper understanding of the subjects they are learning about, as well as the world around them with their critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills hats on, as part of the mix.
Worldschooling also differs from mainstream education in terms of flexibility. Traditional schools typically have set schedules, curriculums, and requirements that students "must" follow. In contrast, worldschoolers have the freedom to design their own learning plans - if they are that way inclined, and choose their own learning experiences. This allows individuals to pursue their passions and interests, and learn in a way that is tailored to their individual needs and learning styles with global scope incentives.
Another key difference between worldschooling and mainstream education is the emphasis on cultural immersion. While traditional schools may offer language classes or cultural clubs, worldschoolers have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in different cultures and learn directly from local communities, inviting living lessons. This not only allows students to gain a deeper understanding of other cultures, but also helps them to develop respect, empathy, compassion, and a "real" perspective.
I will discuss more on the "term" (Living Lessons) soon. "Living Lessons" is a term I've spoken of to my chilren for some years, in a way for explaining intracies for "real " engagement, growth, and take aways.

So how does worldschooling compare to alternative education?
While both worldschooling and alternative education reject the one-size-fits-all approach of traditional schools, worldschooling is unique in its emphasis on cultural immersion and global scope.
Alternative education, on the other hand, may take on many forms, such as homeschooling, unschooling, child-led, or democratic, but generally focuses on providing a non-traditional education that is tailored to needs and interests. Worldschooling can also be seen as a form of alternative education, as it rejects the traditional classroom model and embraces a more flexible, interests based, and a personalized approach.
However, worldschooling goes far beyond alternative education models.
How? By incorporating worldschooling idealisms, philosophy, purpose and values, this style can provide individuals with unique learning opportunities and experiences that are not available in a any other form.
In conclusion, worldschooling is a revolutionary approach to education that combines real-world applications and experiences, cultural immersion, and flexibility. While it shares some similarities with alternative education, worldschooling is unique in its emphasis, philosophy and overarching delivery methods for ultimately gaining no greater opportunity to Learn While Living, Loving the journey...
Whether you are a family looking for a more personalized and flexible approach to education, or simply seeking to broaden your children's horizons and provide them with unique learning experiences, Worldschooling may be the perfect fit for you for casual, part-time or permanent inclusion.
(The "term" , "Living Lessons" coined by Addy Marie McVay, in 2024.)
In previous posts and my resources, I've spoken using the term but had not coined it.
In this post I do.
